TDCA Individual Awards for season 2021/22

20 Mar 2022 by Leigh Fabris

With Ex Students knocking off Glengarry today to win the A Grade flag, the cricket season is now officially over, at least playing wise anyway. Congratulations to both Glen and Ex Students, who were both a long way ahead of the rest of the league in A Grade. To commemorate the end of the season, Imps are holding their Presentation Night at the Traralgon RSL next Saturday. More details to come about the start time and a timetable of when individual awards will be given out. Could anyone who is attending next Saturday night please either respond to the Event in the Imps Players page, or reply in the comments below.

Although we weren’t able to win a Senior flag this season, some of the Club’s individual players were officially recognised by the TDCA for their efforts during the season.

In what must be close to the best fairy tale story of the season, Ross Williams was able to take the most A Grade wickets for the season, taking 22 wickets at an average of 12.59 per wicket, . Rossy has been the B Grade Captain in the last few seasons, and presumably started the season thinking he would remain as skipper in B Grade, but stepped back into the A Grade side, after we lost a large number of players in the off season. As the leading wicket taker, Rossy was also given a spot in the TDCA Team of the Year.

Rossy won the award by one wicket, with former Imps player Adam Brady one wicket behind. Interestingly, the top five wicket takers for the league in A Grade consists of Rossy and three former Imps players (Bash, Warney, Hendo). Also interestingly, the average age of the top five wicket takers would be around 40 years of age,

A Grade skipper Witchy was also awarded a spot in the TDCA Team of the Year, after making 245 runs at an average of 22.27 runs for the season. Along with his batting, Witchy also took 13 catches as the team’s keeper. Witchy will be departing for England shortly, and will be playing for Olicanian Cricket Club during our winter.

Last week Daniel “Eggy” Morris was given the TDCA C Grade League Bowling Aggregate, taking 21 wickets at an average of 9.19 runs. This is no secret to Eggy, who would know his MyCricket stats to the 8th decimal place. This is just reward, after Eggy finished second in the C Grade Aggregate last season. Amazingly, Eggy took his 21 wickets in only 44 overs for the season, so basically taking a wicket every two overs bowled, which is a phenomenal effort.

Although he wasn’t there today to accept the Award, Imps President Peter Dunstan was awarded the Peter McLean Spirit of Cricket Award, for his efforts on and off the field this season. Peter was a much heralded cricketer with Ex Students, playing in five A Grade flags with Students, and was a TDCA Life Member and a TDCA Team of the 90’s. Pieman, as he was more commonly known, was a great cricketer, and more importantly a great bloke, and this Award has been established in the past two seasons, following Pieman’s passing in December 2020.

The Club had a big hole to fill when Rossy announced he was giving up the Presidency, after eight seasons in the role, and Dash has stepped into the role, and has bought great enthusiasm and innovation to the role. There has been a big focus on improving the culture within the Club, and although there were no Senior Premiership’s won this season, I think improved culture has definitely been a success under Dash’s leadership.

Congrats to Rossy, Dash, Witchy and Eggy. Hope to see you all there at the Presentation Night next Saturday.
